Brian Wilde was an English actor of the screen and TV. Wilde was brought up in Hertfordshire, lived in Ware and was educated at Richard Hale School in Hertford. Wilde is best known for his roles in television comedy including Porridge and Last of the Summer Wine. His gloomy face was a staple of British Television for forty years. Wilde died in his sleep at his home in Ware, Hertfordshire in 2008.
