Jez Butterworth a British screenplay writer and actor who was bourght up in St Albans, Hertfordshire along with his brothers Tom Butterworth who is a writer also and producer brother Steve Butterworth. Much of Butterworth's inspiration for the script of Birthday Girl came from his childhood memories of Hertfordshire. Butterworth found success with his directorial debut Mojo which was officially selected for the 1998 Venice Film Festival.
