Sir Michael Caine is an English actor of motion pictures for the screen, TV and stage. He was evacuated during World War II to North Runcton Village in Norfolk. It was here that he made acting debut as Baron Fitznoodle in North Runcton's 1943 pantomime Cinderella. It is these early performances that Caine credits as what fuelled his ambition to act. In later years, after fighting with the Royal Fusiliers in Korea, he returned to the East of England, this time to join the repertory company at Lowestoft Theatre in Suffolk. In 1964, Caine had his big break when he was cast as Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead in Zulu. He went on to star in a number of memorable and acclaimed films including The Italian Job and he is now one of the UK's most treasured actors and an international screen icon. Caine received BAFTA's highest accolade of fellowship in 1990, marking his cinematic achievements. Her Majesty the Queen awarded Caine with the honour of Knighthood in 2000, under his real name Sir Maurice Micklewhite. Caine has been awarded two academy awards for supporting roles in The Cider House Rules and Hannah and Her Sisters.
