Sir Nigel Hawthorne CBE was an English actor of film and TV, whom lived in Hertfordshire and held an honorary doctorate from the University of Hertfordshire. The distinguished actor's funeral took place in the village of Thundridge, near ware, in Hertfordshire in 2001. Hawthorne received the CBE for services to theatre, film and TV in 1987 and in the 1999 New Year's Honours list, he was awarded his well-deserved knighthood. Perhaps best remembered for his role as Sir Humphrey Appleby in the sitcom Yes Minister.
