Steven Mackintosh was born in Cambridge and began acting in local theatre as a child, making his professional debut at just 12 in a play at London’s Bush Theatre. As a teenager, he was cast as Nigel, the glue-sniffing friend of the titled character in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and three quarters. His career received a further boost when he landed the role of Eugene in Neil Simon’s autobiographical Brighton Beach Memoirs. Mackintosh went on to have a small part in the big screen Joe Orton biopic, A Prick Up Your Ears (1987) and played a rookie crewman in the film, Memphis Belle (1990). He has continued to work successfully across film and television, excelling in character roles, notably in the modern classic film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) as the owner of a cannabis factory.
