The Anchor in Thetford is currently closed and awaiting redevelopment. Thetford is an ancient market town surrounded by beautiful Norfolk countryside filled with heritage sites, quiet gardens, open parkland and a relaxing riverside. With Thetford Forest and its patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves right on the doorstep, the town is an ideal base for discovering Breckland wildlife, walking, cycling and riding. Much of the town and surrounding area was using for filming 'Dad's Army' and a trail can be downloaded from www.explorethetford.co.uk. Visitors should make time to explore the Dad's Army Museum which is packed full of memorabilia (www.dadsarmythetford.org.uk); a new addition for June 2010 is a statue of Captain Mainwaring! There is also a heritage trail, a haunted trail and a number of other interesting trails around this charming town.
