Ashlyns School was built in the 1930's by the Thomas Coram Foundation, the Foundling College Hospital. This was a charitable organisation set up in the 18th Century. After it passed to the local authority in 1951, some children under the care of the foundation remained at the school. The school is now for 13-18 year olds and is not open to the public but the nearby market town of Berkhamsted is well worth a visit.
