Borehamwood's Village Hall was built in 1920. Whilst a heritage building Borehamwood is a large town with modern facilities. Given its association with film, it has acquired the nickname, "British Hollywood". Many well-known movies including Moby Dick, The Dam Busters, 633 Squadron, The Shining, the first three Indiana Jones films and the first three Star Wars movies were based at the former Associated British Studios (partly demolished in the 1980s). The area between the two was redeveloped to form the now Elstree Film Studios. The Elstree Film and Television Heritage Group are dedicated to recording, preserving and sharing the town’s legacy of film and television.
