Burgh Mill was recorded in Domesday in 1085. A brick mill was built in the 1500s and enlarged c.1790 which makes Burgh Mill one if not the oldest mill in the county and was still working until 1980. Apart from the old brick section, the building is mainly white weatherboard. It is not accessible to the public and a repair plan is being considered. Burgh Mill is located in Burgh next Alysham close to Aylsham, a bustling market town situated between the beautiful North Norfolk coast and the magnificent historic city of Norwich. It is the centre of a rural farmland community set in rolling countryside, but the town actually predates the Norman Conquest and its recorded name in the Domesday Book was Elesham with the linen and worstead industries accounting for much of the town's initial prosperity. The Parish Church of St. Michael and All Angels is the town's oldest and most impressive building. Visitors will find many beautiful stately homes in the area, such as Blickling Hall which is only a few miles from the town and reputed to be the birthplace of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry V111.
