Chequers Bingo & Social Club is located in the centre of Hatfield in a 1930s art deco style building. The village of old Hatfield and the magnificent Hatfield House are nearby. During the 1930s Hatfield became known for its links to the aviation industry with Mosquito and Trident aircraft being built there. However Hatfield's aerospace and military production history remains in name only through street and place names. The vacated premises and surrounding grounds have been used effectively as temporary film sets for the Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. As a new town, Hatfield has "new town" characteristics including trees and open spaces and is now home to the University of Hertfordshire.
