St Mary in Hawkedon is set in an area where the Victorians were enthusiastic restorers hence much of the medieval interior remains. Hawkedon lies in the rolling landscape between Haverhill and Bury where the Chiltern Hills sink beneath the heathland. Visitors can climb into Hawkedon from Hartest and Stansfield and discover a few ancient houses and a pub scattered about a wide village green that forms the highest point in the parish. In the middle of the green is St Mary with its walled churchyard. A number of private properties have also been used for filming.
