The Norfolk Wildlife Trust declares Cley Marshes to be an ‘internationally reputed premier bird watching site’. The Reserve is certainly one of the UK’s finest. Its new environmentally friendly visitor centre has breathtaking views out to sea, and incorporates an observation area, interactive interpretation (including a remote controllable wildlife camera) and a café. There are 4 hides located within metres of the pools where the birds largely congregate. Visitors can also meander along the boardwalks and glimpse birdlife through the reeds. In spring/summer there is avocet, spoonbill, ringed plover, redshank and lapwing, and autumn/winter sees the arrival of wigeon, pintail and brent goose. All year round there is bittern, marsh harrier, bearded tit and teal in residence.
