A number of private houses in and around the small village of Essendon have been used for filming. The picturesque St Mary the Virgin is located in the village centre near the larger village of Little Berkhampsted. It was rebuilt in1883 and repaired following the Zeppelin bomb in September 1916. The tower is the oldest part of the current structure. It is believed it collapsed and was rebuilt; there is evidence of extensive rebuilding in 1628 on the south side. Memorials from the old church have been incorporated into the new building and the lych-gate was added in 1919 with timber from Hatfield House.
