The historic Fishpool Street, as well as The Lower Red Lion Pub, featured as location in Foyle’s War forming the backdrop for streets supposedly in Hastings during World War II. The lower end of the street was originally known as Salipath and recorded as "Salipath or street of Kingsbury" as far back as 1290. This end of the street was also a Roman road and it may have been the terracing of this which resulted in the high pavement on the uphill side. It is now lined with grade II listed cottages and the award-winning St Michaels Manor Hotel is also located here.
