Hedingham Castle's Norman keep is 110 feet and was built c.1140. To reach the castle visitors cross the Tudor bridge past the Queen Anne house (private but open for events). There are four floors in the keep to explore, including a magnificent Banqueting Hall with a 28 foot arch, one of the largest Norman arches in England; there is a good from the Minstrels' Gallery all built within the 12 foot thick walls. The castle stands in beautiful grounds with woodlands, a lake and valley walks. It is ideal for a family outing and during the summer there are special events such as Jousting Tournaments.
