The picturesque town of Holt and the peaceful surrounding countryside make it an ideal retreat any time of year as well as for filmmakers with a number of private houses having been used for filming. The quaint lanes and yards are stocked with bookshops, galleries, antique and bric-a-brac shops; it is particularly festive at Christmas. There are a number of activities for families. The North Norfolk steam railway connects Holt with the seaside resort of Sheringham, Holt Country Park has more than 100 acres of woodland, with parking, picnic areas, nature trails and an adventure playground, and the idyllic countryside is perfect for exploring either on foot or by bicycle.
