Henry VI laid the first stone of King's College of Our Lady and St. Nicholas on Passion Sunday in 1441. The College's magnificent buildings were intended to be a display of the power of royal patronage and Henry went to great lengths to ensure that King's College Chapel would be without equal in size and beauty. As such the Chapel remains one of the country’s most famous medieval buildings. Today visitors are welcomed to the picturesque grounds and the Chapel but are asked to respect the fact that the College and its grounds remain a place of study.
