The Lower Red Lion pub located in the historic Fishpool Street in St Albans is a traditional pub serving real ale. When it was sourced to feature as a location in Foyle’s War the producers liked the pub’s name so much that they altered the script which had originally been called The Queen’s Head. The pub, as well as Fishpool Street, is fully recognisable on screen and forms a perfect backdrop for this period drama. In one particular scene the production allegedly brought in a fibre glass pillarbox to cover the parking bay meter and at the point where the Director said action a passerby tried to post a letter!
