The modern-day city of Peterborough has a wealth of history. Visit Flag Fen Bronze Age Centre where archaeologists found the oldest wheel in Britain. Then fast forward to discover the 12th century cathedral with the largest surviving example of a painted wooden ceiling from the Middle Ages. Peterborough Museum is the city's most haunted building and has one of the best collections of marine monsters. Peterborough has plenty of green open spaces, lakes and riverside walks, an extensive cycle network and nearby attractions include the steam engines at Nene Valley Railway.
