Completed in 1847 the London & Birmingham Railway company constructed a line from Blisworth in Northamptonshire to Peterborough which became Peterborough's first railway line. The Nene Valley Railway of today is the eastern section of this line and is a preserved railway running between Peterborough Nene Valley Railway Station and Yarwell Junction. The line is seven and a half miles long and in addition to the stations at each terminus, there are three stops: Orton Mere, Ferry Meadows and Wansford. The railway has a selection of impressive steam trains and rolling stock, but amongst young children the most important train is Thomas the Tank Engine!
