Oxburgh Hall

Oxburgh Hall (National Trust) is a beautiful 15th-century moated manor house built as a fortified house rather than a fortress. It is a fine example of a late medieval, inward-facing great house. The square moat is about 75 metres on either side. Key features include secret doors and a priest's hole, Mary Queen of Scots embroideries and a magnificent Tudor gatehouse. The sixth baronet imported a design for a French parterre in 1845 which still survives. A wooden drawbridge leads into the My Lady's Wood where a thatched summer-house sits among the oaks, beeches and sycamore. The woodlands offer delightful walks and trails particularly in spring.
