Potters Bar is largely a commuter town with Roman origins still in evidence which can be seen at Potters Bar Museum where exhibits include a Roman tile kiln; it was the pottery connection that helped to give Potters Bar its name. The town has plenty of restaurants and pubs, some lovely churches and the Wyllyotts theatre which puts on a varied schedule of shows and entertainment throughout the year. Despite its close proximity to London and the M25 and A1 the town is surrounded in countryside and woodland some of which is protected with a wide collection of lovely country houses and pubs popular with filmmakers.
