Whilst RAF Mildenhall which has had filming is not accessible to the public, visitors can enjoy the delights of the nearby medieval market town of Mildenhall and the surrounding countryside. Mildenhall stands on the River Lark, on the edge of the Fens about 10 miles from Newmarket. The town’s retail area is centred on the hexagonal Market Cross where it’s believed Friday markets have taken place since the 15th Century. In this ancient part of town there are many fine timber-framed buildings. Near to the Market Cross is St Mary’s Church which is considered to be the finest church in Suffolk; there is also the Mildenhall Museum.
