Rickmansworth is a charming heritage town with a market charter dating from 1542. There is a fine conservation area, including St. Mary´s Church with its 17th century tower and Basing House with its connections to William Penn, the famous Quaker statesmen and founder of the state of Pennsylvania. There is also a popular theatre (Watersmeet) and shopping area, and the Rickmansworth Aquadrome offers water-based activities. Rickmansworth is home to the famous Moor Park golf course which includes a spectacular mansion as the club house. The River Chess to the east meets both the River Colne and the Grand Union canal. A number of private locations in and around the town have been used for filming.
