The historic town of Burnham-on-Crouch sits on the banks of the River Crouch on the coast surrounded by the beauty of the Essex countryside and salt marshes which are popular for filming. There are many listed buildings, including the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club designed in 1931 by the Joseph Emberton. It is best known as a yachting centre and hosts the internationally known Burnham Week. There are also other attractions including the bronze-age burial mounds and a working steam railway museum. Burnham-on-Crouch is the Capital of the picturesque Dengie 100 listed in the Doomsday Book, which is largely is unchanged. Initially the town was a ferry port and later a fishing port known for its oyster beds.
