Sawston is situated on the River Cam seven miles south of Cambridge. It is the largest village in the county and fulfills many of the criteria for town status such as a High Street, banks, seven pubs and four churches. Sawston Hall, a Tudor Mansion, has been used for filming purposes. Whilst it is not currently accessible to the public it may well be converted to a hotel in due course. Sawston Hall's claim to fame is that it provided a refuge for Mary Tudor (daughter to Henry VIII) in 1553. The protestant Duke of Northumberland found out where she was and tried to capture her. Mary escaped but the Hall was set on flames. Mary rebuilt it when she became Queen.
