Six Bells, St Albans

Printer friendly version >
The Six Bells is a delightful pub in the charming village of St Michaels on the edge of the city of St Albans, and the only modern licensed premises situated within the actual walls of the Roman City of Verulamium. It is likely the house originated as an alehouse and was called ‘Le Bell in Saint Michaels’. The present building dates back to the late 16th century and at some point between 1769-86 the number of bells in the nearby historic St Michaels Church became reflected in the name of the house which became The Six Bells. The pub is only a short walk from the city centre and the cathedral.
