St Andrews Church, Watford

Printer friendly version >

St Andrew's in Church Road owes its location to the railway which opened in 1837. Work commenced in 1853 to build the church designed by the noted architect SS Teulon and was consecrated in 1857. In 1866 a south aisle was added and in 1872 a permanent north aisle. The tower clock was presented in 1883 - in its prime train drivers were reputed to set their watches by it due to its accuracy! Most of the stained glass is Victorian, but there are nine Flemish medallions dating from around 1640. There is also fine three-manual organ made by Brindley and Foster which was installed in 1883.
