St John's College

Printer friendly version >

In 1511 Lady Margaret Beaufort mother to King Henry VII founded St John's College, the second largest of the constituent Colleges of the University of Cambridge. The impressive front gate completed in 1516 leads to the First Court, the oldest part of the College. Key features include the stone carving and pointed windows. The Chapel at the north-west corner of the Court has Clayton and Bell stained glass windows and fine examples of Victorian art. Another notable feature of the college is the beautiful covered Bridge of Sighs. St John’s College is periodically open to the public.
