The church of St Nicholas at Salthouse is located between the village and a high ridge; the church can be accessed via a path which leads from the road. The nave and chancel were rebuilt in the 15th century and there is a painted rood screen but a key feature is the font with its carvings of smiling lions! Nearby Salthouse village is a haven of tranquility with lovely views over the marshes. There is a post-office/shop, a lovely pub, The Dun Cow which overlooks the marshes and a pebble beach. The whole area is popular with bird watchers given there are both common and rare species in residence, or passing through. Walkers might want to explore Salthouse Heath’s network of pathways. This ancient site has been returned to heathland and offers delightful views of the coast, the village and church.
