St Peter's Church is centrally situated in the beautiful historic city of St Albans and presents a quiet retreat from the busy shopping area with its bustling cafe culture. The church has a number of notable features: there is a nave of 7 bays, all but the most westerly one dating from the 15th century; the windows in the north aisle are medieval stained glass; and the Pulpit is oak, hexagonal and has figures of the 4 Evangelists. The first pipe organ in 1725 came from St George's Chapel, Windsor and the Organ case in the North aisle includes some of the original case. St Peter's has a strong musical tradition and there are 10 bells which were recast in 1993. Coffee is served in the North transept on Saturday mornings for visitors and shoppers and on Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 11 am. The delightful churchyard is extensive and threaded with footpaths leading to different parts of the town.
