Stevenage is best known as a new town which developed after World War II, but Stevenage Old Town was actually the original Stevenage and got consumed within the expansion. The Old Town still has a village feel and is full of character with its historic buildings, coaching inns and pubs. Old Town Stevenage has a history dating back to the Roman Empire and more recently to Charles Dickens who visited both Knebworth house and Old Stevenage. The area is popular in the evenings and at weekends given the selection of pubs and restaurants.
