Stiffkey Marshes is part of Blakeney National Nature Reserve managed by the National Trust and nominated for World Heritage status; it is a magnet to bird watchers. The picturesque village is set in a valley on the banks of River Stiffkey and known for its 'Stewkey Blues' or cockles found on the salt marshes. Samphire also grows naturally, but the area is protected. Most houses are brick and flint, some dating from Tudor times, including Momforde's Tudor Cottage, and the main street is narrow and winding bordered by high flint walls making it a little dangerous for pedestrians in busy months.
