Hitchin is a charming medieval market town which has retained its market town feel and has many fine Tudor and Georgian buildings, particularly around the market square. There is a clock made by Gatwards, the jewellers, in the centre of the market square which is close to the largest medieval parish church in the county - St Marys.
Hitchin has many individual shops, cafes and pubs catering for everyone from shoppers to lively revellers at night. In July it hosts the annual Rhythms of the World music festival and has excellent markets ranging from crafts, general goods, local produce and bric-a-brac. It is home to the British Schools Museum where you can learn and experience a Victorian education and nearby you can visit Hitchin Lavender and walk through the lavender fields.
