Thetford is an ancient market town surrounded by beautiful Norfolk countryside filled with heritage sites, quiet gardens, open parkland and a relaxing riverside. With Thetford Forest and its patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves right on the doorstep, the town is an ideal base for discovering Breckland wildlife, walking, cycling and riding. Many locations in and around Thetford were used as backdrops for the British cult classic comedy 'Dad's Army'. A Dad’s Army trail can be downloaded from www.explorethetford.co.uk, and visitors should make time to explore the Dad's Army Museum which is packed full of memorabilia (www.dadsarmythetford.org.uk); a new addition for June 2010 is a statue of Captain Mainwaring! Thetford also has a heritage trail, a haunted trail and a number of other interesting trails around this charming town.
