A variety of roads in the Fens have been used for filming. To get a sense of the landscape visit Wicken Fen managed by the National Trust. Wiken Fen has been used for filming in its own right and is the oldest nature reserve in England. The Fen is a remnant of what was once the vast Cambridgeshire Fens. It is a unique animal and bird habitat with sedge beds, reed communities and Fen meadows supporting a wide variety of flora and fauna. Almost 5000 species of insects, animals and birds have been recorded, and in the 1820s Charles Darwin was known to collect beetles here. A boardwalk enables visitors to experience the beauty of Wicken Fen and the Visitor Centre features exhibitions on the history and ecology of the fenlands.
