Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans is one of several which claim to be the oldest pub in England. It is situated at the end of Abbey Mill Lane beside the River Ver just outside the perimeter of Verulamium Park. The property has an octagonal appearance largely attributed to the fact that it was formerly a pigeon house! The original timber-framed structure is visible and the interior is full of character with low ceilings. There is even an original bread-oven next to one of the fireplaces. The pub has a large beer garden as well as seats at the front.
