The East of England celebrates its royal role when The Young Victoria is released on March 6th starring British actress Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) as Young Victoria and Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice) as Prince Albert, to whom he bears a startling resemblance.
A former University of Hertfordshire Campus in Hertford was used to create opulent sets of the Queen’s dining room and her magnificently floral bedroom at Buckingham Palace. In addition sets were constructed to house the Royal collection of crown and jewels. An operational boarding school, also located in Hertford, was used to replicate the Houses of Parliament.
With exquisite period streets, quintessential villages, magnificent cathedrals, iconic universities, elegant stately homes, countryside estates and even Her Majesty the Queen’s Norfolk retreat, the Sandringham Estate, the East of England has much to offer both Hollywood and tourists. In recent times, Screen East, the regional screen agency, assisted other productions with royal connections including The Duchess, The Other Boleyn Girl, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and The Queen all of which filmed at accessible locations and will feature on the region’s movie map soon to be found at www.sceneonscreen.co.uk.
The East of England continues to attract high profile productions because of its diverse locations, varied landscape and skilled workforce. As a result, the film and television industry brings enormous economic and cultural benefits to the region.
Do you own a property with star quality?
Whether a property is open to the public or not Screen East, can still register it as a filming location, but keep location details confidential if the property is privately owned. The agency strives to develop and promote the creative and digital media industries across the region. It also promotes the region to filmmakers and deals with over 200 enquiries a month from productions looking for a whole range of locations. Screen East’s Location Library has over 7,000 locations ranging from farms to courthouses, pubs to schools and flats to country houses. Film companies pay to use locations – fees can range from several hundred to several thousand pounds a day depending upon the production and what they would like to do.
Screen East is always seeking additions to their library, in particular large residential properties with modern features and a luxurious feel as well as modern, bright apartments in new developments. They are also keen to hear from anyone who has modern office space available and are always on the lookout for derelict industrial buildings and interesting period properties. Screen East offers a free service. If you’d like to benefit from your property appearing on the big or small screen, register by calling 01923 495051, emailing locations@screeneast.co.uk or visiting www.screeneast.co.uk
