Alien Autopsy
Printer friendly version >
Directed by Jonny Campbell and written by William Davies, Alien Autopsy is a humoristic reconstruction of the 1995 scandal when two British men faked a documentary from the famous Roswell incident in 1947. The plot has friends, Ray Santilli (Declan ‘Dec’ Donnelly) and Gary Shoefield (Anthony ‘Ant’ McPartlin) trying to find Elvis memorabilia in Los Angeles. In the process they are invited by a former US Army cameraman, Harvey (Harry Dean Stanton) to see a 1947 film illustrating what appears to be an alien autopsy. He wants $30,000 for it so Ray and Gary must find an investor. They approach Lasvlo Voros (Gotz Otto), a ruthless art dealer with an interest in extra terrestrials who gives them the money, but only on the condition that the footage is genuine otherwise there will be dire consequences. Somehow the film becomes corrupted by heat and humidity removing all the footage. Desperate Ray and Gary re-make the film for Voros, but everything begins to get out of control when the media and CIA find out. Omid Djalili plays Melik.

Locations used for this production:

  • Watford >
A number of interior scenes were shot in Watford Borough in private office buildings. One backdrop is the set created for Gary's offices and shows Ray arriving unannounced and trying to persuade Gary to go help him as he's just had all his stock impounded, including Gary's car. At that point Gary is called into his Boss' office (Jimmy Carr) and from the conversation it becomes clear Gary is unlikely to be fast-tracked to management. Two other scenes that may have been shot in Watford include the interior foyer museum where Ray and Gary are about to screen their footage to what was supposed to be a small intimate audience but the national press have arrived; and the scene when the TV station realise how popular the screening of the footage was and decide to run the film again that day. As it becomes clear to Gary just how wealthy he is to become he returns to his office to resign but not exactly in a conventional way as it involves his in-tray and a glass of water. As a result his boss decides to and 'let Gary go'!
