Brannigan
Printer friendly version >
Directed by Douglas Hickox with screenplay by Christopher Trumbo, William McGivern, William Norton and Michael Butler, Brannigan largely filmed on location in London. It tells the tale of Lt. Jim Brannigan (John Wayne), a brash Chicago detective, who is sent to London to bring back an American mobster, Ben Larkin (John Vernon). On arrival Brannigan discovers the ‘gentleman’ in question has been ‘kidnapped’ ... orchestrated, by Larkin’s own lawyer Mel Fields (Mel Ferrer). Brannigan must therefore work with Scotland Yard to recapture him and see that justice is served. He is assigned Detective Sergeant Jenny Thatcher (Judy Geeson) by Sir Charles Swann (Richard Attenborough), an upper-class rather snobbish Police Commander. The question is, is Scotland Yard ready for Brannigan’s all round American/Irish methods and can Brannigan operate successful within the confines of a more restrained style of law enforcement? Meanwhile a contract is put out on Brannigan taken on by Groman (Daniel Pilon). Brannigan is an all action picture with some well-executive stunts and a number of rather comic moments. It was not a box office success.
