Nominated for a Golden Globe this comedy sequel was directed by Beeban Kidron and based on the novel by Helen Fielding adapted for the screen by Andrew Davies. The plot begins a few weeks after Bridget Jones’ Diary ended. Insecurity is beginning to take its toll on Bridget’s (Renee Zellweger) relationship with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). When they break up due to her jealousy of Rebecca Giles (Jacinda Barrett), Bridget goes to Thailand with Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) on a project; she takes Shazza (Sally Phillips). Whilst Daniel tries to seduce her, she resists his advances. As they are all about to leave Thailand, Bridget is arrested for drug trafficking having agreed to carry Shazza’s gift from her holiday romance with Jed (Paul Nicholls), and she is incarcerated in a Thai women's prison. All seems lost, but perhaps Mark Darcy will be able to rescue her. Reviews were mixed upon release despite the nominations, but it still grossed $302.7 million worldwide.
