Nominated for 2 Golden Globes, Irwin Winkler’s De-Lovely was a musical biographical drama of the life of the famous composer, Cole Porter with screenplay by Jay Cocks. It begins when Porter (Kevin Kline) meets the love of his life, Linda Lee Thomas (Ashley Judd) in 1918. Despite her knowing about his bisexual behaviour from the beginning of their relationship, her love is so strong for him that she overlooks the various liaisons he conducts with other men, but his indiscretions become an embarrassment overtime and to put a strain on their marriage. The film features a number of Porter’s popular songs sung either by Kevin Kline or other well known artists including Robbie Williams, John Barrowman, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole and Mick Hucknall. De-Lovely premiered at the Cannes Film Festival but was not critically well received, despite its many award nominations, nor did it do well commercially.
