This Primetime Emmy award-winning family fantasy TV mini-series was produced by Disney Television and directed by Marco Brambilla. The series appeared as three episodes and was based on the popular books of the same name by James Gurney with screen adaptation by Simon Moore. The plot has David (Tyron Leitso) and Carl (Wentworth Miller) Scott flying over the ocean with their father, Frank (Stuart Wilson). The plane gets into difficult and they must crash land. As Carl and David begin to explore the island they not only discover people but also dinosaurs all living peacefully together. The boys ultimately discover that one of the rules of Diotopia is that no-one ever leaves. Lee Evans is the voice of Zippo a rather neurotic Stenonychosaurus. The mini-series was quickly followed by a television series.

When their father falls asleep, Davie and Carl take control and the plane. They fly into a storm and although Frank, their father, wakes up and takes the controls back, the plane gets into difficulty. They are subsequently forced to crash land near to an unchartered island. Whilst the boys swim to safety, their father is not so lucky.
