North Watford Cemetery >
Every good soap always has a great cliffhanger planned for the exit of their characters. North Watford Cemetery has become the fictional final resting place for many of EastEnders characters over the years. Dirty Den and Angie Watts: After 14 years presumed dead EastEnders's classic villain made his dramatic return to Albert Square for episode 'Hello Princess' on 29th September 2003. It turned out to be a big ratings success for the BBC. On the show's 20th anniversary in 2005 Den came to his final demise at the hands of Chrissie, Zoe and Sam. Den was finally laid to rest in his original grave from 1989 with his first wife Angie who died in 2002 after her heavy drinking finally caught up with her. Den's marriage to alcoholic Angie made some of the soap's most memorable and colourful storylines. The record Christmas television audience with Angie and Den's bust-up episode in 1986 was watched by 30.15 million people. Dennis Rickman: Married to Sharon Watts, on Christmas Day 2005 they receive news that Sharon is pregnant with their first child. To escape his life of crime, Dennis and Sharon plan to leave Albert Square for America on New Year's Eve but much to Sharon's horror, Dennis was stabbed as he crossed the square to meet her. Dennis' funeral was shown on 9th January 2006. Mark Fowler: Mark Fowler was one of the original characters and was the son of Arthur and Pauline, two of the key original characters in the series. Mark was diagnosed HIV-positive in 1991. After his body rejected medication, Mark made a tearful farewell to his family and friends and left Albert Square forever in 2003. News reached Walford in 2004 of his death and his funeral was held on 22nd April 2004. Mark is laid to rest in a fictional plot next to his Dad, Arthur. Arthur Fowler: Arthur Fowler went to prison after being framed by villainous Willy Roper in 1996. After being cleared, the day before Arthur's release, he was caught up in a huge prison riot and where he suffered a blow to the head, which lead to Arthur suffering a brain haemorrhage at the allotments and dying in hospital the next day. Pauline Fowler: Pauline met her death on Christmas Day in 2006, after an earlier fight with both Joe and Sonia. Pauline collapsed on Arthur's bench and is later found by Dot and Martin lying in the snow. Pauline's funeral was broadcast on Monday 1st January 2007. Dot later buries her ashes at Arthur's grave, leaving them together again. Jamie Mitchell: It was the end of the road for Jamie Mitchell on Christmas Day of 2002 after Martin Fowler accidentally ran Jamie over outside Walford tube station. January 2003 saw the day of Jamie's funeral. Paul Trueman: After Paul reported Andy Hunter to the police for his illegal dealings, Andy sent a hit man to kill Paul on 23rd December 2004. Patrick, who brought Paul up despite his best friend being Paul's real father, identified Paul's body a month later. Audrey Trueman: Mother to Anthony and Paul, Audrey ran Walford Square's B and B at 18 Albert Square. She was extremely proud of her doctor son Anthony but despaired of her bad apple son Paul. On the day that Audrey died, Paul confessed to Audrey that it was her favoured son that was behind the hit-and-run accident, not him. Paul is devastated that his Mum still blames him for leading Anthony astray. Audrey collapses and dies at the B and B on 6th September 2001 and is found by Peggy. Roy Evans: On 17th March 2003 Roy collapsed and subsequently died after suffering a fatal heart attack. Roy had discovered that Pat knew about an affair between his son's wife Natalie and Frank's son Ricky and feels utterly betrayed by her. It is after Roy raging at Pat that he slumps to the floor in agony. Roy's funeral was broadcast on 1st April 2003. Ashley Cotton: Son of 'Nasty Nick' and grandson to Dot, Ashley vows to get Mark back after wrongly being told by his Dad that Mark had tried to run him over. On the evening of 14th June 2001 Ashley steels Mark's motorbike without knowing that his Dad had cut the bike's brakes in hope of killing Mark. Ashley loses control, crashes into the laundrette, and instantly dies leaving Nick sick with guilt. Ashley's funeral was broadcast on 21st June 2001 after which Dot orders Nick out of her house and he has not been seen since.
