The third series of the ITV prime time detective series Foyle’s War was first aired in 2004. Michael Kitchen returns as the dogged detective chief inspector. It was from over 300 programme ideas submitted to the ITV Network Centre that Foyle's War was chosen by acclaimed scriptwriter and novelist Anthony Horowitz whose previous credits include Murder in Mind and Midsomer Murders both of which shot on location in the East of England. Horowitz wove historical fact into fiction in his creation of Foyle's War produced by Greenlit Productions and directed by Jeremy Silberston. It takes the team some 14-16 months to make a series from original development. The first series set in 1940 won the Lew Grade Audience Award at the 2003 BATFA Television Awards. Major challengs facing the production team include finding country lanes with no lamp posts or yellow lines and using skillful design, camera angles and sound to ensure authenticity with the period.
