Directed by Ken Russell this erotic horror film was about the poets Shelley (Julian Sands), Byron (Gabriel Bryne) and Mary Shelley (Natasha Richardson), who all meet on a stormy night in a villa in Switzerland. Following the highly fictionalised events of the night, Shelley subsequently created the character Frankenstein.
