This BAFTA award-winning BBC adaptation was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy award and directed by Julian Jarrold. Adapted for the screen by Tony Marchant from the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens, the film tells the tale of Pip (Ioan Gruffudd) who is expected to become a blacksmith but has dreams of becoming a gentleman. When he meets Miss Haversham (Charlotte Rampling) and her niece Estella (Justine Waddell) he is convinced his dreams will be realised. However his aspirations seem dashed with the arrival of Abel Magwitch (Bernard Hill).
