The Oscar and BAFTA award-winning Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom was the second in the film in the initial triology and saw the return of archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) to the screen as he travels through India to find a mystical stone and subsequently rescues a large group of lost children who have become victims of child slavery. Directed by Steven Spielberg with co-producer and writer George Lucas the majority of the film was shot at Thorn-EMI Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a box office success and generally well received although there was some criticism particularly around the darker storyline and the perceived raciest undertones by India where there was controversy amongst the Hindu community. Spielberg returned to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood where the production team took over eight out of the nine sound stages and about 80% of the filming actually took place. Regrettably Ford suffered a severe spinal injury during the scenes with the elephants which meant he needed to be airlifted to hospital during filming. His stunt double Vic Armstrong therefore spent five weeks as the stand-in for various scenes to keep the film on schedule which was achieved. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom grossed $333 million worldwide.
