King Ralph
Printer friendly version >
With direction and screenplay by David S. Ward this comedy was loosely based on a novel by Emlyn Williams entitled Headlong. It was not a commercial success despite its impressive cast. Following the accidental demise of the entire British Royal Family, a desperate search unfolds to locate an heir to the throne. The trail leads to a Ralph Jones (John Goodman), a loud, American and very average Las Vegas entertainer who is down on his luck. Ralph is bought back to London and put into the care and tutelage of Sir Cedric Willingham (Peter O’Toole), the King’s Private Secretary. Meanwhile Lord Percival Graves (John Hurt), Prime Minister Sir Jeffrey Hale (James Villiers) and Willingham agree to meet to discuss the other options available!
