Printer friendly version >
Nominated for a Golden Globe Award, Kinky Boots is the story of a failing Northampton shoemaker, Charlie Price (Joel Edgerton) and his attempts to rescue his business by moving into a niche market: footwear for drag queens! The plot is actually based on Divine, the trademark of W.J. Brookes, a real factory for boots and shoes that featured on an episode of the BBC Documentary series ‘Trouble at the Top’. A Broadway musical version of the film is proposed. Based at Ealing Studios in London the film used locations largely in Northamptonshire and London as well as Clacton in Essex.
